WhenBefore skiing

Prepare

Even before clicking into your skis, your skin gets ready.

Just as you adjust your layers before facing the elements, your skin needs to build up its hydration reserves and strengthen its natural barrier. An essential step to better withstand the dry cold, the wind and the temperature swings that define days at altitude.

Your questions

The SkiCare FAQ

Cold, wind, dry air, sun on the snow: in the mountains, the skin needs special attention. Born at Les Fermes de Marie in Megève, Pure Altitude combines alpine plant skincare, actives from extreme environments and spa know-how. The SkiCare approach supports every moment of winter: hydrating before the slopes, preserving comfort against the elements and recovering supple skin after skiing.

Pure Altitude and mountain expertise

What is SkiCare?

SkiCare is a skincare routine adapted to the skin in winter and during ski trips. It meets several complementary needs: hydration, nourishment, protection against dryness, sun protection and soothing after exposure. At Pure Altitude, this approach extends the experience of our mountain spas into everyday gestures.

Why choose Pure Altitude to care for your skin when skiing?

Pure Altitude was born in the world of Les Fermes de Marie in Megève, around mountain plants and the expertise of the Ferme de Beauté. This alpine origin translates into concrete treatments: Cold Cream to nourish and protect exposed areas, the Lift 4810 Concentrated Serum as a hydrating, lifting base layer, and the Fleurs de Givre Mask to restore comfort after the slopes. SkiCare brings together a heritage, formulas and consistent rituals.

What is the link between Pure Altitude and the Fermes de Marie spa?

The Ferme de Beauté at Les Fermes de Marie opened in 1990. The Pure Altitude world then grew around the spa’s protocols and alpine plants, before the product line was launched in 2009. This history shapes an approach to skincare that combines cosmetic efficacy, quality textures and the pleasure of the ritual.

Is SkiCare only for skiers?

No. A SkiCare routine is also suited to winter walks, mountain stays and everyday city life, when cold and heating make the skin feel more uncomfortable. The choice of products depends above all on your skin’s condition: lack of water, dryness, tightness or a dull complexion.

Understanding your skin’s needs in winter

Why does skin feel tighter in winter?

Cold, dry air, wind and heated interiors can encourage dryness and make the skin less comfortable. When its protective barrier is weakened, it retains water less well. Tightness, roughness and small dry patches call for gentle cleansing and hydrating, nourishing treatments.

What is the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin?

Dry skin lacks lipids; dehydrated skin lacks water. Skin can have both needs, and combination skin can also become dehydrated. Rich in hyaluronic acid, the Lift 4810 Concentrated Serum provides a first hydrating step; a suitable cream completes the routine. For dry skin, Nutrialpes Cream offers a more nourishing texture.

What is the skin barrier and why care for it when skiing?

The skin barrier is the protective function of the skin’s outermost layer. It helps limit water loss and protect the epidermis from external aggressors. In winter, caring for it means cleansing without stripping, hydrating regularly and providing lipids when the skin needs them.

Hydration, nourishment and protection: do you have to choose?

These actions are complementary. Humectants, such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid, help maintain hydration. Oils and butters bring suppleness and comfort. Protective textures help limit dryness. UV protection, however, is the job of a sunscreen: a nourishing cream does not replace it.

Ingredients and actives from extreme environments

What do we mean by “ingredients from extreme environments”?

These are ingredients inspired by organisms living in demanding environments: altitude, cold, drought or intense sunlight. Mountain edelweiss, Andean maca and Arctic berries such as lingonberry illustrate this world at Pure Altitude. Their cosmetic value depends on the properties of the extract and on the formula that contains it.

What is an adaptogenic active in skincare?

The term adaptogenic refers to an approach to skincare focused on balance and resistance to environmental stress. To understand its value in a formula, look at the specific benefits: hydration, soothing, antioxidant protection or comfort. At Pure Altitude, this is part of a selection of actives from the mountains and extreme environments.

Why is edelweiss Pure Altitude’s signature?

Edelweiss is Pure Altitude’s emblematic flower. Its extracts are valued in skincare for their antioxidant and softening properties. It signs the alpine identity of many formulas, without necessarily being the most concentrated ingredient. The brand uses organically grown edelweiss from the Swiss Valais, as part of its commitment to preserving mountain plants.

Do antioxidants replace sun protection?

No. Antioxidants and UV filters have different functions. An antioxidant plant extract can complement a routine, but on its own it does not provide measured UVA and UVB protection. When skiing, alpine plant skincare goes hand in hand with suitable sun protection, reapplied regularly.

What are the lingonberry cryo-extracts in the Lift 4810 Concentrated Serum?

They are extracts of wild Arctic berries (lingonberry, raspberry, cloudberry) chosen for their antioxidant, toning and hydrating properties. In the Lift 4810 Concentrated Serum, they are combined with hyaluronic acid, Mont-Blanc glacier water, edelweiss and Osilift Bio®, an oat-derived active that provides an immediate tightening effect. This fluid serum is applied in the morning, before your cream.

What are the benefits of maca root for the skin?

Maca is a plant from the high Andean plateaus. Pure Altitude uses it in the Maca Root Elixir, a treatment oil for tired skin and dull complexions. Its formula brings nourishment, suppleness and comfort. It fits into your evening ritual or can enrich a cream, following the product’s directions.

Which ingredients give the comfort of a “puffer-jacket cream”?

In Pure Altitude Cold Cream, alpine beeswax, plant oils and shea butter create a rich, protective texture. The formula notably includes sesame, jojoba and raspberry seed oils, as well as Mont-Blanc glacier water. The expression “puffer-jacket cream” describes this enveloping comfort and protection against dryness; it does not refer to any measured thermal insulation.

Choosing Pure Altitude products

Which Pure Altitude cream should I use before going skiing?

Cold Cream suits very dry skin and exposed areas that need nourishment and comfort. Nutrialpes Cream is another option for dry skin looking for a rich daily treatment. Choose the texture according to your needs, then apply your sun protection separately.

What is the difference between Cold Cream and Nutrialpes Cream?

Cold Cream is a face and body treatment designed to nourish and comfort dry or exposed areas for the whole family. Nutrialpes Cream is a face cream for dry to very dry skin, with a creamy texture for everyday use. The first is versatile; the second fits into a regular facial routine.

Is a serum enough before skiing?

No. The Lift 4810 Concentrated Serum is the base layer of the ritual: it hydrates and smooths, but must always be followed by a suitable cream. It replaces neither the comfort of a nourishing treatment when the skin lacks lipids, nor sun protection. The routine stays simple: serum, cream as needed, then sunscreen.

Which mask should I choose after skiing?

The Fleurs de Givre Mask meets the need for soothing and comfort of skin stressed by cold and sun: it’s the SOS mask for the end of the day. The Biocellulose Hydration & Radiance Mask is better suited to the hydration and radiance needs of a dull complexion.

Which ingredients make the Fleurs de Givre Mask special?

The Fleurs de Givre Mask combines the softening actives of mallow and wild pansy with nourishing hazelnut and St John’s wort oils. Mint essential oil gives it a fresh feel on application, and edelweiss adds Pure Altitude’s alpine signature. The goal: soothe, comfort and restore supple, luminous skin.

What is the difference between Pure Altitude masks?
  • Fleurs de Givre: soothing and comfort. The SOS fresh gel mask for stressed or uncomfortable skin, to leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Biocellulose Hydration & Radiance Mask: hydration and luminosity. A single-use sheet that hugs the face for a 15-minute ritual.
What is a sleeping mask and which one should I choose at Pure Altitude?

A sleeping mask is a mask you leave on overnight, according to its directions. The Fleurs de Givre Mask can be used this way: applied in a thin layer in the evening, it works all night long. A drop of Maca Root Elixir can be added to boost its regenerating action.

How do I care for my lips in winter?

The Bons Baisers de Megève Lip Balm nourishes and comforts dry lips, notably thanks to beeswax and honey. Reapply as needed; in the evening, it can be used in a thicker layer following its directions. On the slopes, also bring a lip product with SPF: a nourishing balm without sun protection does not protect against UV rays.

Which treatments should I plan for hands and body?

Cold Cream can be applied to the hands and dry areas of the body, following the product’s directions. Secret des Alpes Hand Cream completes a dedicated hand routine. After a lukewarm shower, a nourishing treatment helps restore suppleness and comfort under winter clothing.

Is Pure Altitude SkiCare suitable for men and families?

Treatments are chosen according to the skin’s needs. Men can follow the same logic of hydration, nourishment and sun protection. For the family, Cold Cream is the product Pure Altitude explicitly presents as suitable for young and old. This does not automatically extend to all serums, masks and other products.

Rituals before, during and after skiing

Which facial routine should I follow in the morning before skiing?

After gentle cleansing, apply the Lift 4810 Concentrated Serum, then a suitable cream: Nutrialpes Cream for dry skin or Cold Cream depending on your need for protection and comfort. Finish with sunscreen, following its directions and without mixing it with other products. Protect your lips too, and let the products settle before heading out.

Why wear sunscreen when it’s cold?

Temperature says nothing about UV intensity. In the mountains, altitude and reflection on the snow can increase exposure. Broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection is therefore needed on uncovered areas, even in cold or cloudy weather, alongside clothing, goggles and sunglasses.

How often should I reapply sunscreen when skiing, and what does SPF mean?

Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours outdoors, and after sweating or wiping your face, following its directions. SPF mainly indicates the level of protection against UVB under test conditions: it is not an authorised exposure time. Choose high UVA and UVB protection, at least SPF 30, and apply it generously.

What should I keep in my pocket during the day?

A sunscreen you can reapply and a lip product suited to exposure are the essentials. A nourishing balm can complete the ritual when lips become uncomfortable. Remember often-forgotten areas, such as the ears, and reapply sunscreen after wiping your face.

Which ritual should I follow after the slopes?

Start by removing sunscreen and impurities with gentle cleansing, for example the Makeup Remover Oil with Raspberry Seed Oil & Blueberry. Then choose the mask that matches your needs: the Fleurs de Givre Mask for soothing or the Biocellulose Hydration & Radiance Mask for hydration and radiance. Finish with the treatment suited to your skin. This recovery ritual favours gentleness and comfort.

How can I turn my SkiCare routine into a spa ritual at home?

Take time to let your mask work, then enjoy a gentle massage with a suitable oil, such as the Maca Root Elixir if it suits your skin. The Fleurs de Neige fragrance can set the mood in the room. A hydrating bath, a cocooning texture and a few slow gestures extend the spirit of the Pure Altitude spas.

Can I use a scrub during a ski trip?

Yes, if your skin tolerates it and following the product’s directions. The Flocons de Céréales Scrub is part of a gentle exfoliation ritual. It is not a mandatory step after the slopes: on skin that feels tight, turns red or shows irritation, favour gentle cleansing and comfort.

Does drinking water or herbal tea replace a moisturiser?

No. Drinking regularly contributes to the body’s normal hydration, but it does not replace treatments designed to limit skin dryness. A herbal tea break is a pleasant part of the après-ski ritual; serum, cream and mask meet the skin’s needs on the surface.

Christmas gifts and the SkiCare shop

Which Pure Altitude gift should I give to someone who loves skiing?

Choose a gift that goes with their trip: Cold Cream for exposed areas, Bons Baisers de Megève Lip Balm for comfortable lips, or the Lift 4810 Concentrated Serum as a hydrating, lifting base layer. A selection combining these uses makes a SkiCare ritual to give. The gift sets in the Christmas Shop detail their contents and the sizes included.

Which gift should I choose according to skin needs?

For dry skin, choose a nourishing treatment such as Nutrialpes Cream. For a dull complexion, choose the Biocellulose Hydration & Radiance Mask. For mature skin lacking firmness, the Lift 4810 Concentrated Serum brings hydration and a tightening effect. For skin stressed by the cold, think of the Fleurs de Givre Mask. The gift then becomes a treatment chosen for the person.

Which small beauty gift evokes Megève and the mountains?

The Bons Baisers de Megève Lip Balm, Cold Cream or a Biocellulose Hydration & Radiance Mask offer an introduction to the Pure Altitude world. For a gift for the home, the Fleurs de Neige fragrance evokes the atmosphere of its spas. Find sizes, prices and availability on the shop’s product pages.

Where can I discover SkiCare treatments and Pure Altitude Christmas gifts?

On the official Pure Altitude online shop, the SkiCare selection brings together treatments suited to the skin’s needs in winter. The Christmas Shop presents the season’s gifts and gift sets. To choose a personalised routine, the experts at the Ferme de Beauté can also guide you according to your skin type and habits.
