Winter evening routine: repairing what the cold has taken
After a day of cold and wind, the skin has a lot to recover from by evening. Night is precisely when it repairs itself best. Here is an evening ritual designed for winter: cleanse gently, care for the eye area, nourish and protect the lips, to wake up with a rested complexion and comfortable skin.
It is ten o'clock at night. Outside, snow is falling on the rooftops of Megève and the thermometer has plunged well below zero. You come home, cheeks flushed, with that familiar feeling: skin that feels tight around the lips and on the cheekbones, wherever the cold has bitten.
The wind, the icy air, the dry heat of heated interiors… A winter's day takes its toll. In just a few hours, the skin loses water, part of its protective film and a little of its comfort. By evening, it asks for just one thing: to be given back what was taken.
The good news is that night is precisely when it is best at repairing itself. It simply needs a helping hand. Here is the evening ritual we love, designed for winter, just as we imagine it at the Ferme de Beauté.
At night, the skin repairs itself, and winter makes it a must
During sleep, the skin changes pace. Circulation picks up, cell renewal speeds up and the skin barrier rebuilds itself. It is also when the skin best absorbs the treatments you give it.
In winter, this overnight repair becomes essential. Under the effect of the cold, the skin dehydrates faster during the day and produces fewer protective lipids. By evening, it is starting from further back, and so needs a true ritual all the more, rather than a quick gesture rushed before bed.
The idea is not to pile up products. It is to follow a few well-chosen steps, from the lightest to the richest, giving each one time to work.
Step 1: remove makeup and cleanse, ever so gently
Everything starts with clean skin. After a winter's day, remove your makeup, any traces of sunscreen (yes, even in January) and the fine dust left by the air around you.
The watchword: gentleness. At this time of year, cleansers that are too harsh finish stripping a skin barrier that is already weakened. Choose a texture that cleanses without leaving the skin tight, such as the Lait des Alpages cleansing milk, with lukewarm rather than hot water, and slow movements, almost a massage, to warm the features.
This is the first chalet ritual: switch off from the day and slow down. Clean skin is ready to receive.
Step 2: care for the eye area
On clean skin, start with the most delicate area of the face. The eye contour, marked by the cold, the wind and the fatigue of long days outdoors, is the first to betray dehydrated skin.
Here, we love the Eye Contour Care. Like a protective mask, it shields this fragile area from harsh weather and dehydration thanks to the Sève de Vie complex (edelweiss, maca, birch sap, Antarcticine) and hyaluronic acid. A small amount, pressed lightly with the tip of your ring finger, is all you need.
Once or twice a week, on evenings when your skin is truly thirsty, treat yourself to our new Biocellulose Hydration & Radiance Mask too: leave it on for fifteen minutes and your face is quenched.
Step 3: nourish with an enveloping night treatment
Now comes the most comforting step: nourishment. In the evening, the skin no longer has to hold makeup or brave the cold within the hour. It can welcome a richer texture that works quietly while you sleep.
The Nutrialpes Cream was designed for exactly this. The rich, velvety version of the Edelweiss N°1 Cream, with edelweiss (Leontopodium Alpinum), it nourishes and regenerates dry and dehydrated skin, the kind that winter puts to the test. Apply a generous layer with gentle upward strokes, and let your skin recover until morning. Mature skin may prefer the Rich Anti-Aging Cream with Rhodiola Rosea.
The Ferme de Beauté's tip: on bitterly cold evenings, warm a little cream between your palms before applying it, then rest your hands on your face for a few seconds without rubbing. The warmth helps the texture melt, and the gesture soothes the mind as much as the skin.
Step 4: don't forget the lips
They are often the first to suffer. Thin and without sebaceous glands, the lips dry out and chap as soon as the cold sets in, and at night the dry air of a heated bedroom does not help.
One last gesture, just before you close your eyes: the Bons Baisers de Megève Lip Balm. With beeswax (Cera Alba) and Alpine honey (Mel), it forms a nourishing film that repairs while you sleep. Apply a thick layer, without holding back.
The next morning, your lips wake up supple rather than rough. A small detail, but it is often the details that reveal well-cared-for skin.
The evening ritual, a moment for yourself
Ultimately, a winter evening routine is not just about products. It is a moment you give yourself: the soft light of the chalet, the silence after the snow, a Fleurs de Neige candle flickering, a few minutes when you do nothing but take care of yourself.
The skin remembers what you give it. Cleanse without stripping, care for the eyes, nourish, protect the lips: four simple steps, repeated night after night, are enough to see you through winter with a rested complexion and comfortable skin.
