Which anti-ageing cream when your skin feels tight in winter?
Tight skin and deeper wrinkles in winter: why it happens, what to look for in a winter anti-ageing cream, and our Rich Anti-Aging Cream with Rhodiola Rosea.
In winter, many people notice it: the cream that was enough in autumn no longer is. The skin feels tight after a shower, fine lines are more visible, the complexion looks dull. It is not just an impression: cold changes the skin's needs, especially when it is mature. Here is how to choose an anti-ageing cream that brings both the comfort and the smoothing it needs.
Why skin feels tight in winter
Cold slows down the production of sebum, the protective film that keeps water in the skin. Outside, wind and dry air dehydrate it; indoors, heating lowers the humidity of the air. As a result, the skin barrier weakens, the skin loses water and craves comfort.
With age, the skin naturally produces fewer lipids. That is why mature skin is the first to feel tight, and why wrinkles look deeper on dehydrated skin. To find out more, read our article What cold really does to your skin at altitude.
What to look for in a winter anti-ageing cream
- A rich texture: in winter, a fluid cream is often no longer enough. A richer emulsion restores comfort and limits water loss.
- Moisturising actives, such as hyaluronic acid, which holds water and plumps the skin.
- Smoothing actives, such as peptides, to visibly reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
- Antioxidants, to help the skin defend itself against external aggressors.
- Nourishing oils, such as rosehip oil, rich in omega 6.

Our answer: the Rich Anti-Aging Cream with Rhodiola Rosea
It was our best-selling face treatment on our online store last winter. The Rich Anti-Aging Cream with Rhodiola Rosea (€98, 50 ml) was designed for mature, dry and dehydrated skin in need of comfort:
- Rhodiola Rosea, the Siberian "golden root", a powerful antioxidant;
- Matrixyl 3000, a peptide complex that stimulates cell activity to visibly smooth wrinkles and fine lines;
- hyaluronic acid, which hydrates and plumps;
- rosehip oil, which nourishes and softens;
- edelweiss, an antioxidant.
Its texture is rich, melting and creamy, with notes of rose, orange blossom, jasmine and musk. In a clinical study under dermatological control (21 volunteers, 28 days, one application per day), a significant reduction in wrinkles and fine lines was observed in 100% of subjects. And 100% of volunteers found their skin nourished, smoother and firmer (self-assessment test, same conditions).
How to apply: morning and/or evening, apply to the face and neck with light massaging movements to stimulate microcirculation.
Combination skin, very dry skin: adapt your routine
- Combination to oily skin: keep the Rich Cream for the evening, as a night cream, and choose the Light Anti-Aging Cream with Alpine Active Trio (€72) in the morning, a perfect make-up base.
- Very dry skin: add a few drops of Himalayan Elixir (€68) to your cream to boost it.
- For a stronger tightening effect: apply the Lift4810 Concentrated Serum (€74) under the Rich Cream. Discover our other combinations in The duos that really work.
The winter routine in 4 steps
- Cleanse gently, with lukewarm rather than hot water.
- Apply a serum, if you use one.
- Massage in your cream on the face and neck, from the centre outwards.
- In the mountains, finish with sun protection: Bol d'Air Pur Sunscreen SPF 30 protects against UV while nourishing the skin against cold and wind.
The Ferme de Beauté's tip: if your skin still feels tight even with a rich cream, look at your cleanser first. A product that is too harsh or water that is too hot is enough to cancel out the benefits of the best cream.
